Την 25 Ιουνίου 2008 στο Ζάππειον Μέγαρο έλαβε χώρα το 2ο Διεθνές Συνέδριο Προσομοίωσης και Εκπαίδευσης στις Ένοπλες Δυνάμεις. Περισσότεροι από 120 συνέδρους από 35 διεθνείς και εγχώριες αμυντικές βιομηχανίας, εκπροσώπους των ενόπλων δυνάμεων και ακόλουθοι άμυνας συμμετείχαν στο συνέδριο. Στα πλαίσια των επιστημονικών μελετών που χρηματοδοτήθηκαν από το Ελληνικό Ινστιτούτο Υγιεινής και Ασφάλειας της Εργασίας (ΕΛ.ΙΝ.Υ.Α.Ε.) για τα έτη 2003 – 2005, ανετέθη μετά από σχετικό διαγωνισμό η επιστημονική μελέτη “Ανάπτυξη Συστήματος On Line Μετρήσεων Εύφλεκτων Αερίων στην Πρόληψη Ατυχημάτων στην Ναυπηγοεπισκευαστική Ζώνη» σε ομάδα ερευνητών της Σχολής Χημικών Μηχανικών του Εθνικού Μετσόβιου Πολυτεχνείου, σε συνεργασία με στελέχη των Ελληνικών Ναυπηγείων Α.Ε. Η ομάδα είχε επιστημονικό υπεύθυνο τον Καθηγητή Ν. Μαρκάτο και μέλη τους Επίκουρους Καθηγητές Α. Χαλουλάκου και Χρ. Κυρανούδη, τον Χημικό Ναυτιλίας κ. Σ. Σαρβανίδη, τον ιατρό εργασίας κ. Ε.Αλεξόπουλο και τους κ.κ Ι. Μπαξεβάνη και Δ. Παπαϊωάννου της Νουόβα Μαρέα Ηλεκτρονικής.
